What’s the best treadmill for home use?
The available treadmills for home use seem to have gone up-market over the last year or so. Whether that’s because, during lockdowns, buyers have decided they wanted something more substantial, or just because the cheaper models have been found wanting – or both.
However, there is still a wide range of options with something to suit most budgets.
Here’s just a few of the best at the time of this update. The available models do seem to change quite fast. So if the model you’re interested in is not available, click here for a link to the current best selling treadmills.
Budget Treadmills
CITYSPORTS Foldable Treadmill WP3
The WP3 does have a fold-up bar with some controls and place to put your phone but otherwise is much like the WP2 with the display etc. on the main part of the machine.
Although it still has the same 440W of power, it is set up to run at up to 8km/h (or 5mph). Given that it’s designed more for jogging, there’s a safety key to attach to your clothing which will shut off the machine if it’s pulled.
WP3
CITYSPORTS Foldable Treadmill WP5
The WP5 by comparison, has 1400W and runs at up to 15km/h (9mph)
It has a more substantial frame which does still for down when not in use.
The digital readouts are on the frame and the speed controls on the arms. Naturally the WP5 also has a safety key.

With some other types of exercise machine, paying more doesn’t necessarily bring more features. But with treadmills, you do tend to see a notable difference.
All of the treadmills we’re looking at are described as ‘folding’ but this is a relative term.
Moving to the next step up, things get a bit more serious.
JLL T350 Digital Folding Treadmill
The JLL T350 Folding Treadmill a much more substantial looking machine and will feel nearer to the ones at the gym.
This has a 4.5HP motor, more than twice the previous two, a max speed of 18km/h or 11mph, and 20 possible levels of incline and there are 20 programmes.
There is a USB port and it is bluetooth enabled for playing music through the built-in speakers. There are touch sensitive audio controls on the console as well as to control the machine and a 5” display.
The running area has a cushion system and is 121 cm in length and 41 cm in width;
Maximum user weight is 120 kg.
Dimensions: L158 x W 70 x H 128 cm [62 x 27.5 x 50in)
Branx Fitness Foldable ‘Cardio Pro’ Touchscreen Console Treadmill
Comparable with the JLL is the Cardio Pro from Branx Fitness.
It has a similar speed 3.5 Motor (6HP Peak)
It also has 20 incline levels but only 12 programmes, a slightly larger running platform (125 x 45cm). Like the JLL, it has a cushion system (they call it ‘Smart Shock Absorption System’.)
The 5.5″ LCD displays Speed, Distance, Time, Calories, Pulse, Incline and LAPS Feature.
Max user weight is 130 Kg or 286lbs = over 20st.
There is a 2 Year warranty on parts & labour, and 5 years warranty on frame and motor.
Upper range
Branx Fitness Foldable ‘Elite Runner Pro’ Soft Drop System Treadmill
The Elite Runner Pro takes some of the features of the Card Pro and goes up a notch.
So the engine power is up to 6.5HP, and the max speed is 21km/h (13mph).
There are 2 more incline levels (22) and the running area is 140cm x 48cm and the max user weight is 160Kg.
There are 24 workout programmes and a 6in (15mm) crystal blue backlit display.

Conclusion
The fact that the cheapest treadmills available are rather dearer than they used to be is probably no bad thing in terms of quality. The first priority is that they’re sturdy and safe and even the first on the list here looks to be a decent treadmill.
Of course, to some extent you get what you pay for, but it’s not a linear relationship.
Although I’ve called the dearer machines ‘Upper range’ there are, of course, many treadmills far dearer than that so the terminology is relative.
Hopefully, this page has helped you find something for your needs and budget.
